UPC Cablecom's mobileNIS application

One of Europe's leading cable operators UPC cablecom of Switzerland has developed an interface between the AND SystemSolution and their legacy GIS from ESRI. This enables network information in the ESRI system to be automatically updated following an AND documentation update. Armed with smartphones the cablecom technicians have access to a range of information when out on the network via mobileNIS, a mobile (ESRI) GIS application. MobileNIS also depicts AND objects. If the user clicks on one of them a message is sent to AND which in turn "freshly" generates documentation as a PNG file and returns this to the technician normally within 10 seconds.
